Tell me, when was the last time God wow'ed you?
When was the last time God exceeded your expectations so much that it caused you to drop your mouth in awe?
I'll share a few of my recent experiences.
After close to two years of me and Al sharing my mom's old, two-toned colored jalopy, God not only blessed us with one pre-owned luxury car -- but with two luxury cars in 2021. (I share that God story here.)
And just recently in October, I felt led to pray every day for unsaved loved ones to grow in their relationship with Jesus. Three months later, one of the family members I prayed for during those 30 days, reached out to me and Al, and inquired if we could pray together nightly as a family!
After the first evening of praying and talking together as a family, I ended the call and worshipped Jesus in my living room.
I was so overwhelmed.
I was grateful.
And in awe of how God moved.
Wow. Just wow!
Get Ready to Be Wowed by God
God wants to wow us, and our verse this week helps us plant this truth, deep in our hearts.
Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly more than we could ask or think according to the power that worketh in us." Ephesians 3:20 KJV
Whether it's God blessing you with a new home, a financial miracle, or a blessing for your children; God wants to exceed your greatest dreams and prayer.s
I remember in 2011, participating in my first fast with my mom's church. The Pastor had us make a list of areas, where we would like to see God move in our lives. I wrote in my journal, how I desired a closer relationship with God, and how I wanted to reduce my drinking. I wasn't willing to completely stop drinking wine, but I was open to God reducing my consumption.
Wouldn't you know it, after completing that 30-day fast, I no longer had an appetite for alcohol?
I tried going back to alcohol out of habit -- but the alcohol caused piercing migraine headaches. I realized that the migraines were a way God that God was removing the desire and enjoyment of alcohol from my life.
Allow God to WOW you
So you see, God exceeded my expectations during that fast.
He did more than I could ever ask or think.
He wowed me.
Are there any areas in your life where you are playing God short, thinking He can't or won't wow you?
Are there any areas where your faith has withered, or doubt has begun to creep into your heart?
I realize there are times when we can be prone to discouragement and unbelief. In these situations, Satan does his best to make us think that God won't move exceeding or abundantly in our lives, but when those times come, we must God-feed our spiritual bellies with His good, nourishing word.
Look for the Wow
Although my marriage is not perfect, I realize it has exceeded my expectations as a single woman. After my fast in 2011, I began to pray, while a single woman, specifically for a God-fearing husband.
God answered this prayer by doing so much more.
Not only has He blessed me with a husband that loves Him with his whole heart, but Alfred is my best friend, prayer partner, laughing buddy, confidant, and more.
I look at Al some evenings and just say, "Wow, God!" God has done much, much more than I could have ever prayed or dreamed for in a marriage.
This encourages me, and I hope it encourages you to see the areas in your life where God has exceeded your expectations. Use those past experiences as momentum to believe in God to exceed your expectations in abundant ways.
I don't care what you may have done in the past.
Satan will try to tell you that God doesn't want to blow your mind in wonderful ways.
He may try to tell you that you will never grow closer to God, that you can't memorize scripture, or that you will never marry or have a God-honoring marriage. When confronted with thoughts like this, we need to feed our brains God-food.
Satan is a liar.
You can be debt-free.
You can be consistent in your diet and lose weight.
You can start a business, write a book, or go back to school.
God wants to do great things through His power working within you. He wants to wow you and do more than you can ever ask or think.
This week, may we refuse to play small. Let's resist the temptation to settle or compromise, and instead let's press in and believe the Apostle Paul as He encourages us to know about the mighty, wonder-working power of God:
"Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly more than we could ask or think according to the power that worketh in us." Ephesians 3:20 KJV
